Club Update 10-20-2020

Dear Members,

We are midway through October and the club is increasingly busy with the return of seasonal members and the wonderful daily reunion of good friends. Here in the “Windstar Bubble” we continue to enforce the many modifications to operations and the highest level of sanitation possible in our mission to keep our members and employees safe. Unlike our success at Windstar, the Collier County COVID-19 cases were slightly elevated last week, with an average age of 40 years.

The clubhouse has successfully maintained 50% capacity in our dining room and lounge, and we are holding meetings via ZOOM or on the Keewaydin Terrace. Members feel the most comfortable engaging in outdoor activities including golf and tennis, and even this season’s first Book Club meeting was held outdoors on the Keewaydin Terrace. All card playing is also restricted to the Keewaydin Terrace.

New Hours for Pro Shop and Carts - On October 16th we increased the Pro Shop hours to 7am – 4pm and opened the use of club carts throughout the day.

Cash Gratuities – On November 1st we will return to cash gratuities for the cart staff and will discontinue the automatic $5 per cart gratuity.

Private Carts – Members may use private carts on the course through December 31, 2020. On January 1st, only club carts will be allowed.

We project a large increase in golf rounds this season. To accommodate them safely, we are using cart dividers as an extra precaution. Please DO NOT TAMPER with the dividers. A significant number of the attachment pieces have already been lost when they were detached on the course. The staff will raise the divider for members of the same household. All members will be expected to ride as doubles or walk Members who are willing to pay for a full cart to enable them to ride alone can let the shop know and they will be issued their own single cart for the full cart rate. This option has become a necessary, equitable practice within private clubs throughout the country.

On Tuesday, November 10th we will install a 90 X 20 ft. tent over the Keewaydin Terrace. This will increase our ability to offer outdoor events under cover all season. We will also hold Fitness classes on the terrace.

Our Fitness Center is now open 7 days per week from 5:00 am – 9:00 pm. We remind everyone to register for gym time and classes. If you have not registered, you will have to wait until space is available so we can maintain social distancing. If you are not comfortable attending indoor classes please take advantage of our ZOOM classes, enabling you to attend live classes feeling safe in your home. Passports are now on sale for discounted classes on an unlimited basis.

The Board recognizes that it may be difficult for many members to meet their Food & Beverage minimum this year. They will review the situation and determine potential relief, deferment or bulk purchase options at their November Board meeting.

We are encountering many questions about the use of masks at the club. They are required everywhere in the clubhouse except in the Fitness Classroom, where they are strongly suggested, and in the gym if there are fewer than 8 people there. Masks should cover both your nose and mouth. They should not be removed except when dining at your table. If you leave the table to go to the restroom or to food stations, please put your mask on.

Our anti-virus campaign, #windstarcares, is posted with safety reminders throughout the Club. We continually sanitize all areas daily and we have hand sanitizer stations throughout the club. You will see acrylic barriers at the Turn Window, the Pro Shop, and the Front Desk. Members, employees, and vendors are all required to wear masks. We have the KN95 masks, Windstar masks and touch-free tools for member purchase and will mail them to you if you are out of town. No quarantining is required, but please do not come to the club if you are not feeling well.

As always, the Board and management thanks you for your ongoing cooperation and efforts to protect each other from the pandemic. We know that some of these measures may be inconvenient, but the safety of members and employees will always be our priority.
