Windstar Gives Back

Windstar Gives Back is an event run by and for Windstar members that raises money for area charities serving kids at risk in the Bayshore community. Since 2008, we have raised and given away over $700,000 to organizations such as Avalon Elementary School, Shadowlawn Elementary School, The Boys and Girls Club of Collier County, The Harry Chapin Food Bank and The Shelter for Abused Women and Children.

Windstar Gives Back is held over a weekend in November and includes fishing, tennis and golf events. The fishing event is generally held on a Friday. The tennis event, which involves both member play as well as professional exhibitions, takes place on Sunday and is followed by a cookout and party on the Keewaydin Terrace open to all club members. A golf Pro-Am, in which club members are paired with areas club professionals, is held on Monday, following which participants and interested club members enjoy a cocktail reception, awards ceremony and silent auction.
All monies raised go to the Windstar Club Charitable Foundation, Inc., which has been granted 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code. Club members propose local charities that support area kids for grants. The Foundation board, made of club members, evaluates the grant applications to ensure that each applicant is a 501(c)(3) organization in good standing and that its programs will benefit kids at risk in the Bayshore area.

Windstar on Naples Bay sponsors fifth home for Habitat for Humanity

Windstar on Naples Bay has once again undertaken an initiative to assist local families in need. For the fifth year, Windstar on Naples Bay is partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Collier County through the Community Contribution Tax Credit Program (CCTCP).  The CCTCP is a state funded incentive to encourage businesses that collect and remit state sales tax to partner with those who provide affordable housing.

This year Windstar has helped the Reyes family build a home for her and her young son, giving him a safe place to play and grow. “If it had not been for you all, we would not have a home.” writes Yuridia Ramirez Reyes in the heartfelt thank you letter to Windstar members. In partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Windstar makes a commitment to cover the hard costs of building a Habitat home which makes the club eligible for a rebate in sales tax previously paid to the state. In addition, for each home built, a minimum of 200 hours of volunteer labor is provided by Windstar members. Working together with Habitat, Windstar has provided homes for five legal, hard-working families in our community while contributing more than 2,400 hours of volunteer labor!

Habitat for Humanity of Collier County, which marked its 35thanniversary in 2013, is one of the largest and most successful affiliates of the international organization. Through Habitat’s unique partnership approach, families receive not a temporary hand-outbut rather a life-changing hand-up. Each Habitat family helps build their home and then purchases it from Habitat for Humanity with a no interest loan.
